We are looking for a full-time web designer/developer to join our growing team. Our ideal candidate is comfortable working in Photoshop but thrives in a text editor working with XHTML, CSS, and jQuery. We use ExpressionEngine and Drupal, so prior experience with these or other lightweight CMSs is required. You will not need to write applications from scratch, but should have some basic experience and ability to sift through PHP.

The ability to interact with staff (at all levels) in a fast-paced environment (often under pressure), while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient (with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality), is crucial to this role. Strong written and verbal communication skills, decision-making ability, and attention to detail are equally important.

Duration: Full-time, one month probationary period
Location: Downtown Washington, DC

The Web Designer / Developer will:

–Work directly with clients to establish project needs
–Take the lead in writing proposals for project work
–Design website mockups to present to clients and make revisions incorporating their feedback
–Generate web graphics for web pages, social media, online campaigns, marketing, etc.
–Generate website markup from scratch
–Translate graphic design mockups into functioning markup
–Assist clients with the maintenance and upkeep of their websites
–Configure, maintain, and support CMS and online activism tools
–Procure and administrate client website domains
–Guide the client content creation process

Must Have

–2+ years guiding teams through a planning, mockup, development, and launch process
–Strong XHTML and CSS skills and a comfort working with jQuery, JavaScript, and PHP
–Knowledge of and experience working with CMS platforms such as ExpressionEngine, Drupal, and NationBuilder
–Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop or similar graphics suite
–Ability to meet deadlines and identify and work around obstacles
–Ability to work with our geographically dispersed team and clients
–Experience with domain and web hosting/management (e.g. DNS, SFTP)

Strongly Prefer

–Knowledge of and experience with campaign/constituent management platforms such as Salsa and NGP
–Online advertising experience, especially with Google AdWords and Facebook
–Campaign experience
–Creativity with problem solving and work output
–Schedule flexibility
–Some travel availability (10%)
–Knowledge of press printing and familiarity with a layout application like Adobe InDesign
