The Chronicle of Higher Education seeks a talented User Interface Developer who is passionate about building dynamic interfaces and experiences that are both engaging and usable. The Chronicle of Higher Education is building a formidable technology team in order to go far beyond its current digital content and services. The Chronicle was among the world’s first publication to use computer-based authoring, typesetting, and publishing and was also the first newspaper on the Internet. What will be the next big thing The Chronicle does first in media? We know; and we are looking for superior talent to get us there.

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, creative, and can deliver rapid prototypes for new user interfaces and interactions for various online projects. This person will collaborate with business owners to translate complex business initiatives into innovative UI/UX solutions. A can-do-attitude, with the ability to energize and work with cross- functional teams is required.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Deliver high-fidelity prototypes for new user interfaces and interactions for various online projects.
• Deliver concept and vision prototypes, applying rapid ideation and prototyping skills.
• Lead in the creation of and influence structure, navigation, page layout and visual design of Websites, while ensuring adherence to IT and brand standards and procedures including Search Engine Optimization responsibilities
• Collaborating with multiple departments to develop an optimal end product
• Tracking industry trends, customer needs and business requirements

Experience/Skills:
• Documented strong UI/UX experience
• In depth knowledge of Javascript, HTML5, CSS, JQuery, AJAX, PHP
• 5+ years’ experience in front-end design/development of websites.
• Knowledge of unobtrusive JavaScript techniques and responsive web design
• Proficiency in source code management practices
• Strong presentation, oral and written communication skills with the ability to negotiate, influence and resolve issues effectively
• PHP application software programming experience, as well as any prior database interaction experience with MYSQL or Oracle would be very highly desirable.
• Familiarity with REST services utilizing JSON, JSONP, and XML
• Experience building Apps for iOS/Android is a huge plus, but not required
