    The IB Americas (IBA) team provides a wide range of services to IB World Schools and to prospective schools that are interested in the IB’s programmes. In addition, the regional staff provides a full array of professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators throughout the year. IB Americas has two offices across the region: Bethesda, MD, and Buenos Aires, Argentina. This post will be located in our IB Americas Global Centre in Bethesda, MD.

    International Baccalaureate — Americas is currently looking for a:

    Production Editor – Start Date May 1, 2012

    The Publishing Services department is responsible for providing a publishing service to the organization, producing curriculum documents for schools, as well as commercial and communications publications, and publications for other departments on request.

    As Production Editor, you will work in cross-departmental project teams to undertake and coordinate publishing work on assigned projects. A typical project team could include a production editor, an author and a translation coordinator; a commissioning editor, a designer, and sales and technical representatives may also be involved for some projects. You can expect to undertake editing or production work as the need arises, but you will also work closely with external suppliers and with other IB staff to facilitate the publishing process.

    The Production Editor will:

    •Act as production editor for assigned publications, commissioning external editors, designers, illustrators, designers, typesetters and proofreaders as appropriate, to ensure an efficient, high quality and cost effective workflow.
    •Act as project manager for assigned projects in various languages to ensure that all elements of the publishing process remain within agreed scope, schedules, budgetary constraints and quality standards.
    •Commission external production editing, editorial, proofreading, typesetting and other suppliers to work on publications to ensure an efficient, high quality and cost effective workflow.
    •Manage the editing and proofreading of assigned English-language publications, working closely with authors, translators, designers, developers and external suppliers as required.
    •Manage the production work (including formatting/page layout, scanning/image manipulation, print/CD/online production stages and final publication stages) of assigned publications in all languages, working closely with translators, designers, developers and external suppliers as required.
    •Ensure that publications are uploaded to the appropriate websites, and sales stock is made available on time.
    •Contribute to the development, maintenance and communication of inter-departmental policies, agreements and procedures, for internal use and to provide support to authors and other IB staff.
    •Provide advice and guidance to authors and other IB staff as required on matters relating to house style, grammar, syntax, and editorial and production practices, templates, procedures and outputs.
    •Keep abreast of developments in the field to be able to make recommendations for changes in practices and/or procedures.

    Requirements:

    •A degree, or equivalent experience
    •An excellent command of the English language
    •Proven editorial and production experience in a publishing environment, to include dealing with external suppliers and working on a variety of print and online publications
    •Excellent project management skills, including time management and organizational skills, and good interpersonal skills
    •An excellent eye for detail, and the ability to complete work accurately and consistently
    •Confidence with a variety of different software packages
    •A good understanding of the aims and objectives of the publications group
