Online Product Associate

  • SAGE Publications, a leading academic and professional publisher of books, journals, and electronic media, located in Thousand Oaks, California, with offices in London, India, Singapore, and Washington DC, is currently seeking an Online Product Associate.

    The Online Product Associate is the operational owner of SAGE online products / content platforms. The position requires daily interaction with various business units throughout SAGE to globally administer the development and delivery of new and existing SAGE online products. The Online Product Associate will work with the Online Product Manager to guide the strategic growth of assigned products, and plan for both short- and long-term product development goals and maintenance priorities. This role facilitates communications between front and back office teams to ensure cohesive product support and agile, cost-effective management of business objectives. The Online Product Associate administrates actionable, measurable, and timely project management, facilitating the execution of these goals and championing the product vision for both internal and external audiences.

    Responsibilities
    • Support in-house product expertise, acting as the voice of the customer and the user, sustaining the vision for online products within the Library Information Group.
    • Administer online product development as needed to sustain the long-term evolution of assigned products. This includes facilitating the development and execution of project plans, documenting requirements, budgeting and forecasting, user and beta testing, release scheduling, performance metrics, and other tools to ensure tasks are delivered on time and risks are well managed.
    • Perform ongoing market analysis activities and user testing before, during and after feature enhancement, to inform development strategies.
    • Help maintain and develop an awareness of competitors and other relevant online activities within the publishing industry that could influence SAGE’s online product development. Participate in company communication tools to share this knowledge.
    • Perform product training and related documentation to internal teams as needed. Participate in and support external product-related marketing, publicity and customer service activity as requested.
    • Facilitate ongoing communications with our two Library and Editorial development groups, driving enthusiasm, support and communicating any feedback to the appropriate teams.
    • Analyse data outputs (e.g., usage statistics) from the product to assess success of development work performed, and to inform new product development initiatives.
    • Prepare routine product performance and update reports for internal audiences.
    • Work with Online Product Managers to develop systems, templates and processes to track online product feature requests, manage product release schedules, and handle product-related communications.
    • Develop successful working relationships across SAGE in order to support cross-organizational communications with diplomacy and consensus, to ensure relevant teams are informed of product developments, objectives, procedures, user profiles, and other vital product facts.

    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree required; additional education beneficial
    • Working knowledge of publishing industry; experience within scholarly publishing organizationl beneficial
    • Experience project managing cross-functional teams that include technology, sales, editorial and/or marketing staff
    • Experience working with online products and services
    • Formal project management training beneficial; experience in project management required, with such tasks as writing business requirements; usability testing and data analysis experience preferred.
    • Experience working with the library and academic market beneficial
    • Ability to utilize analytics to drive business decisions
    • Ability to effectively interface with customers, both internally and externally
