Growing consulting company is looking for a Linux System Administrator to support a client contract. This position will be located on-site at the client offices in Chantilly, VA with a new business unit of a large aerospace/aviation company that is expecting significant growth in infrastructure and operations over the next few years. Part of this expansion will see the network grow from a primarily local footprint to eventually include networks at multiple datacenters in the United States in order to support global operations for the company’s new commercial tools and applications.

We are looking for a motivated individual who can work with other IT and software professionals within a product team environment to support the growing infrastructure and commercial operations of our client.

Job Requirements/Responsibilities:
- Maintain and support applications and services on virtual server environment consisting of approximately 200 Linux VMs (RedHat & CentOS) and virtual servers in local office and two datacenters
- Maintain local server systems including OS upgrades, patch installation, etc.
- Perform network and system monitoring (primarily using Nagios) and verify the integrity and availability of hardware, server resources, systems and key processes
- Perform and manage system backups in Chantilly
- Perform basic database administration functions and backups (MySQL, Postgress)
- Maintain and coordinate firewall rules and filters with local IT and network security staff at the datacenters
- Maintain network and infrastructure documentation

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science (or related field) or equivalent experience
- Minimum 3-5 years experience in System Administration
- 2+ years of recent Linux (preferably RedHat/CentOS) administration experience
- Proficient in scripting or programming with an emphasis on systems automation (BASH, Perl, Python)
- Basic database administration experience (MySQL, Postgress)
- Working knowledge of Linux and network security (firewalls, ssh, etc)
- Understanding of VM infrastructure, setup, and configuration

Other Desired Skills:
- Must have a strong work ethic
- Excellent skills in communication, analysis, research, and problem solving
- Understanding of and enthusiasm for the aviation field is a plus

This position is a part-time position (20-25 hours per week) located at our client site in Chantilly, VA. As the company’s business unit grows, additional hours or a transition to full-time employment is possible. Infrequent and minimal travel may be required to/from datacenters. The salary is very competitive and commensurate with experience and industry rates and includes a limited benefits package.
