Journalist for part-time assignment (Telecommute)
-
The Institute for Public Policy Reporting seeks a journalist to help gather information for its daily PublicPolicyMatters.com report. Our daily report is distributed as a free service to a nationwide audience of professional journalists.
The successful candidate for this assignment must have strong headline-writing skills, apply objective standards to the selection of news used in the report, and possess the capacity to encapsulate the essential subject of a press release in a few words.
Also, the candidate must be available to start work around 5 p.m. each weekday, and have access to a high-speed Internet connection. The daily work assignment will usually be completed by 7 p.m. or earlier.
The successful candidate must be knowledgeable about the structure and processes of the federal government, and be familiar with public policy issues that occupy (or should occupy) the news media’s attention.
This is a part-time telecommuting position for an independent contractor. You will provide your own computer equipment and workspace. It can be at home, at an office, a public or school library, or any location that provides wi-fi service. (All the tools needed to complete the assignment can be carried on a flash drive.)
Please take a moment to become familiar with the work we do before responding to this announcement (see http://publicpolicymatters.com/02-03qrs.html ).
The Institute for Public Policy Reporting is a chronically cash-strapped tax-exempt organization, but has never missed a payroll. Starting compensation for this position is $25 per day. On a typical day, the work assignment should be completed in less than two hours, depending on the daily ebb and flow of press release traffic, the editor’s familiarity with the websites that are examined, and the pace of the editor’s headline-writing and typing skills.
