Tarmac has an exciting contract-to-hire opportunity with a mid-size employer in the College Park, MD area. This position emphasizes the learning of new technologies and growing with the team!

POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for both the architecture and implementation of the backend persistence needs for large multiparadigm content management system central to our business. More than just diagrams and whitepapers, you will be charged with the implementation of your vision. Your role will include evolving our data management strategy to best accommodate a diverse set of requirements. In short, this position could be described as a DBA for the modern age.

SCOPE
This is an extremely hands-on position, with intense, daily interaction with all members of the team. Fast-paced, flexible, and innovative mindset required.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Demonstrable, extensive database design and development experience using SQL based servers and/or XML repositories.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
• Architect, Design and develop data tier of product
• Work with client-side, server side team members to support business needs
• Participate in Technical design and code reviews
• Perform load tests and play key role in performance optimization of data tier
• Guide Infrastructure team on system specs for data tier
• Work in Agile development environment for rapid and maximum through put
• Monitor and report progress on Project schedule to Project Manager and Team lead
• Excellent communication skills

QUALIFICATIONS
• Min. 5 years’ database development, design and architecting experience
• Strong experience with both and no sql
• Experience with both structured, unstructured and semistructured database paradigms
• Sql and xml repository design
• Setup, administration of databases and index management
• Performance improvements for indexing strategies
• Experience with data warehousing concepts such as ETL and OLAP
• Experience with: Mongodb, xquery db (marklogic, exist), sql
• Nice to have: lucene, hadoop, hbase, cassandra, couchdb

LOCATION
College Park, Maryland. There will be opportunity to work from home on occasion.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Travel will be required on occasion. The company has a number of business units across the United States. Travel requirements for this position though not guaranteed should be less than 20% of normal daily work.
